MICS FOR THEATRE AND MUSICALS

Although the actors on stage are the focal points of  theatrical productions, much more goes into the performance than what you see and hear on the stage. To properly mic a play or musical, you need to make sure the actors are heard, as well as the music and any other background or ambient sounds that enhance the experience. From lavaliers and headsets for the actors, pencil and instrument mics for the pit and even hanging and plant mics for ambience, DPA has professional condenser microphones to support all audio applications found in a live stage theatre production.

Microphones for Theatre & Musical

Get closer to the audience

3 mm CORE technology

DPA's newest series, based on tiny 3 mm subminiature capsule technology, contains CORE by DPA technology and is perfect for bodyworn theatre applications.

Tiny and versatile lavs
These lavs are some of the smallest and best sounding of their kind. They are almost invisible when mounted inconspicuously on a costume or hidden in the hairline. They allow the actors to enjoy unrestricted movement during the show while allowing the audience to focus on the speaker and the content, not the mic.

By shrinking CORE by DPA technology, we ensure you don't have to compromise on sound to focus on aesthetics. Precision engineering and miniscule optimizations of our capsule technology have created a subminiature that significantly outperforms all other mics in their class – and beyond.

Durable, flexible & IP58 certified

DPA Bodyworn Microphones are designed to withstand the toughest of conditions.

All CORE by DPA technology microphones, including the subminiatures, are IP58 certified. This durability is achieved through a number of defense mechanisms:
Water-repellant nano-coating of the cover and housing
Hermetic sealing of the sensitive amplifier at the core of the mic
Dual gold plating of the diaphragm

Our unique Double Vent Protection System allows for a great resistance to humidity and sweat. With a gold-treated diaphragm and microphone housing plus a Kevlar®-reinforced cable, the DPA bodyworn mics are made to endure. Furthermore, on our miniature omnidirectional mics we have added a reinforced cable relief which is built to withstand the constant twists, bends, and pulls that are part of everyday use.

Wireless adapters or hardwire - it's up to you

DPA Microphones’ ingenious adapter system is one of a kind in the industry. It protects your investment in fantastic sound for years to come.

In addition, all DPA microphones can be hard-wired, so theatre productions that prefer this type of solution can benefit from these high-quality mics too.

Hidden bodyworn mics for theatre

DPA miniature and subminiature microphones can be used as virtually invisible hidden mics on stage actors. These versatile mics can be easily positioned anywhere on the body to capture the best possible sound for your specific assignment.

Both the 4060 Series Miniatures (5 mm/.20 in) and the 6060 Series Subminiatures (3 mm/.12 in) allow you to ensure repeatable, superior sound quality, unseen by the audience. They come in a range of variants that can meet your special needs, but common to all of them is their excellence at functioning at high or low SPL, and in humidity, heat and dusty conditions. They can be relied upon to deliver high-quality output with pristine detail and low noise.

An all-day professional headworn solution

Beyond this minimized size and maximized sound potential from the CORE by DPA technology, our new subminiature headset mics also sport a completely redesigned, lightweight, one-size-fits-all headset that attaches over the ears for maximum comfort. It is the most advanced headset construction on the market. It ensures comfort, even during long-term wear, but does so without sacrificing security. Its form grips gently and snugly around the head and is easily adjustable. DPA headset microphones are perfect for all types of theatre and musical productions.

DPA's Headset Microphones (both miniature and even more so subminiature) are small and elegant in design. They are lightweight and flexible, ideal for productions that  place more emphasis on accurate voice reproduction, comfort and easy setup, than concealment. These microphones benefit from being placed extremely close to the mouth, which is the perfect position to get the best sound.

Microphones for the orchestra pit

Often containing a number of different instruments in a small space, the orchestra pit is a notoriously difficult area to mic up correctly. Both close-miking solutions as well as "a less is more" ambient solution with overheads can be valuable. The trick is to pick the correct microphones for your particular situation – this includes pit design, theatre size, stage vocalists' ability, etc. No matter what you choose, you can be certain that DPA mics will deliver a powerful live experience to your audience.

Award-winning instrument mics

The 4099 Instrument Microphones Series is a close-miking solution that gives you a much more natural sound than any internal microphone or pickup. With a focused supercardioid pickup pattern, they are ideal for capturing isolated sound from instruments in a tight pit. Known for their discreet size and elegance, these mics come in two variants, depending on the SPL range needed. Both variants feature a lightweight design, yet they are also rugged. The versatile gooseneck provides stable and repeatable positioning. The flexible design supports a variety of mounting and positioning possibilities and offers a wide selection of ingenious mounting options.

Studio sound in the pit

DPA's wide range of versatile recording microphones is legendary in the high-end recording industry and can make the instruments in the pit shine. Delivering clean, accurate sound, these mics are used by professionals, who understand sound and insist on using only the best. They offer extremely accurate off-axis response, ensuring natural sounding interaction amongst instruments in a pit. When not used as an area mic, they can be paired together with the Gooseneck Shock Mount and MMP-G Modular Active Cable Preamplifier with MicroDot, to turn any modular recording mic capsule into a fantastic instrument microphone.

Boundary & hanging microphones for stage

Stage microphones, also known as boundary mics, can be effective for area pickup of stage productions. Hanging mics can be used above the stage to capture the sound farther upstage.
