How to mic speaker cabinets (for electric bass & guitar)
Guidelines for miking a speaker cabinet with DPA miniature mics
The 4061 Miniature Omnidirectional Microphone can easily be mounted with the DMM0002-B Miniature Double Pin directly on the front grill of a speaker cabinet or combo amplifier.
The sound is open, detailed, crisp and dynamic – everything the guitar player is dreaming of. Guitarists may spend a lifetime designing their sound and programming their effects with minor details. Why ruin this using a microphone with poor resolution and limited dynamics? The 4061 will reproduce every minor change in delay, reverb time, overdrive or whatever else is changed.
For extremely high sound levels (just before your ears start bleeding), choose the Hi-SPL 4062 Miniature Omnidirectional Microphone.
Says Ole Kibsgaard, Shubidua: "I use the IMK4061 Miniature Microphone Kit on my big Marshall guitar stack with Shubidua and am amazed at the result. My system consists of a 100 Watt tube amplifier with two 4x12" cabinets. On stage I play very loudly and the amplifier is set at about 6-7! It's so impressive to see this tiny microphone handle that huge sound pressure just in front of the loudspeakers! There is no sign of distortion or indication that it will clip or pop. On the contrary, the sound is very clear and dynamic. The solution is extremely convenient, as the microphones are so very small and light."
